History was made on 20th March, 2024 as the Federation of Uganda basketball Associations entered a multi-billion partnership, the first of its kind, with betting giants BetPawa.

FUBA and BetPawa have signed a 3-year contract to be the official partner for the the Male National team (Silverbacks) and the Women’s National team (Gazelles). It covers training, travel, accommodation to supplmement the team budget. The total sponsorship amount spread over three seasons will be Ush 2.6 billion.

For each and every game that the Gazelles or Silverbacks play and win, each player and coaching staff shall receive a winning bonus of Ush 150,000, called the Locker room bonus.

FUBA CEO Marcus Kwikiriza says that the deal started 9 months ago and to see it completed is remarkable in itself.

BetPawa Chief Commercial Officer Ntudi Mouyelo went on to challenge the athletes and the federation. “The challenge that I’m giving you is to demonstrate that this investment will bring the Gazelles and the Silverbacks to higher ranks in Africa and the world”

This deal comes after a successive Women’s Afrobasket for the gazelles in 2023 in Kigali and after the Silverbacks have qualified for 3 consecutive Afrobasket tournaments. The Silverbacks recently returned from the first window of the 2025 Afrobasket qualifiers in Tunisia where they picked up a single victory (against Nigeria) in 3 games played. They shall be playing their next window in February 2025.
