Finals
Power 40-53 UCU Canons (Men)
UCU Lady Canons 38-49 JKL Lady Dolphins (Women)
UCU Canons defeated Betway Power 53-40 in the final of the annual UCU Invitational Tournament to be crowned champions.
The Canons first eliminated last year’s winners JKL Dolphins in the semifinals while Power needed three overtime periods to edge defeat City Oilers.
The final was a one-sided affair with Power struggling to keep up with the Canons’ pace.
UCU were also heavily backed by the home crowd being the hosts.
Fayed Baale and David Deng Kongor got the Canons going in the final as the side started with an 8-0 run.
Fadhil Chuma and Titus Lual took care of the business inside the paint while Fayed Bbale continued to impress with his ball handling and game management.
It was the home side that celebrated after the two-day event as they made up for last year’s semifinal defeat in the tournament.
In the ladies’ category, new signings Brenda Ekone and Zainah Lokwameri led JKL Lady Dolphins to victory over UCU Lady Canons.
The Lady Dolphins managed to defend the crown.
The league champions had earlier defeated MUK Sparks and KIU Rangers in quarter and semifinals respectively.
The tenth edition of the tournament was graced by most of the top teams in Uganda.
KIU Titans, KCCA, Namuwongo Blazers and UPDF Tomahawks are some of the other teams that made the trip to Mukono.
