UPDF, Ndejje SS shine at JOVOC Open

Newly promoted UPDF Tomahawks used the annual JOVOC Open Championship to try and prepare for the new basketball season.

The army side defeated Mbarara University of Science and Technology in the club category to lift the cup at St. Joseph’s Vocational School, Nyamitanga in Mbarara over the weekend.

The tournament attracted over 45 teams including clubs, higher institutions of learning as well as secondary schools.

Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi and MUST were among the universities to grace the championship that celebrated nine years of success.

Ndejje SS announced their presence at the championship with victory to take the boys’ title while Exodus College made up for last year’s defeat with victory in the final.

Ndejje SS defeated Trinity College Kabale in the final.

Nkozi defeated MUBS 46-40 to take the ladies’ cup in the university category.

JOVOC Open is the only basketball tournament in the western region thus far.

    We congratulate Coach and Team X Player Byamukama Alex for nine years of competently promoting basketball in western Uganda and Uganda in whole. For his efforts, many basketball enthusiasts can look forward to a regional annual basketball, fun, and great music jam session. We keep our heads up for March 2021.

    Jovoc open Basketball Tournament is one of a kind . a competition that is targeting regional basketball development. . Indeed it has attracted over 100 teams since its inception, and has nurtured talent within young people , more is yet to come as we await for its attraction of the whole country .
